AMA Supercross Series -Jacksonville, FL

3/27/2010

Over the weekend DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha and our squad comprised of the lone member at the moment, #577 Martin Davalos focused in deeply at the task of turning in their best and grabbing a finish back up front. The AMA Supercross Lites East series setup to do battle in Jacksonville, Florida at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium before 38,321 fans. With ever changing track conditions, Davalos posted the 3rd quickest timed qualifying lap. Here is the play by play…

In Heat #2, Davalos jumped out to the holeshot but ran it in way too hot into the first turn, in trying to make the turn he knifed his YZ 250F hard  into the outside berm. The intended result unfortunately wouldn’t work out, as Martin crossed lines with another rider and was forced to the ground. Remounting in last place, Davalos found himself trying to rebound to get inside of the top nine in order to avoid the LCQ.  Setting some of the fastest lap times of the heat race, and making bold moves, Davalos mounted a super charge from the rear of the field to grab 9th just before the checkers.

The main event got underway; Davalos started poorly but was able to creep around the outside of the first turn.  Rounding lap one within the top eight, Davalos maintained a pace that helped put him in the breakaway with the real contenders.  Lap three saw big changes, as Davalos assumed 5th and went on to pressure for a possible top three finish in the coming laps. From there, entering into lap four things took a turn for the worse as Davalos rode with sheer determination. While Davalos hammered through a tricky stair case whoop section, his front end dropped and sent him into a massive endo which resulted in bad crash. Unfortunately, the get off stopped his race entirely and put an end to the night.

AMA Supercross Series -Dallas, TX

3/20/2010

Round five of the AMA Supercross East coast Lites Series went off with a bang to a huge fan base inside a newly designed stadium in the Dallas area this past Saturday night. Both classes had their exciting moments on the track to say the least. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha had their hand in all the commotion, with #577 Martin Davalos putting on an inspiring performance throughout the night of racing. To begin the day both teammates showed promise, as Davalos clocked in at 3rd quickest in Timed-qualifying. Unfortunately, #341 Nico Izzi who fractured part of his foot at the previous race, still went out and attempted to ride practice, but after doing a few laps it was obvious he’d need some more time to heal. Nico will be taking a few weeks off to get healthy, then plans to race the last two east rounds.

Davalos came out in Heat #2 sitting around 7th early on; some aggressive riding in the tight sections, and pure speed catapulted him upward. Eventually Davalos moved his Yamaha to a finishing spot of 2nd and in the process he reeled in the championship and race leader by the races conclusion.

With the gate dropping for the Main Event, Davalos darted up the inside and it looked like the holeshot might be his. However he was chopped off from the outside, getting on the brakes hard was not enough as a massive pileup ensued. With numerous riders down, including Davalos, the mad dash to get going again took place. Riding with confidence, on the first lap Martin moved into the 10th position and established himself as a rider on the move. Riding strong as he had all day, he made considerable gains within six laps as now Davalos sat 6th with plenty of time. Fighting off repetitive attacks throughout the later portion of the race while going at it to keep holding the 5th spot. The relentless Star rider rode to the rear wheel of the competitor ahead and put on the pressure. With only a few laps to go, Davalos refused to settle and was vying to obtain 4th, doing just that he would go on to finish there for a personal season best.

AMA Supercross Series - Toronto, ON

3/13/2010

The AMA Supercross Series traveled north of the border, making an appearance in Canada by way of a huge fan base inside the Rogers Centre over the past weekend. A technical track, with extremely slick soil treated DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s #341 Nico Izzi, and #577 Martin Davalos, to a tough night of racing.

Lites Heat #1 began in solid form with Davalos upfront and setting the standard. For five laps, Davalos kept his composure as he went after the leader. Holding strong, the Yamaha pilot fended off any attacks and raced on to a 2nd place. Izzi showed promise, but was buried back in 12th around the first turn. Quickly Izzi wicked up his pace, seeing him make a move for a decent qualifying spot, and by races end he finished in 5th.

For the main event, track conditions had deteriorated which made racing all the more difficult. Finishing lap one in 6th, Izzi avoided all the carnage and set out towards the front. Unfortunately, Davalos didn’t fair as well after starting around 10th, he was caught up in some pile ups that relinquished him all the way back to 20th on lap one. After a few more laps into the race, Martin had regrouped and etched his way up in to the top fifteen, only to crash one more time. At this point, Izzi rode at one steady pace, and with the race past the halfway mark, he comfortably ran just inside the top ten. With the 15 laps winding down, the DNA teammates rode onward in trying to salvage a good result. In the end, Nico put together a 10th place finish and Davalos took home a 15th for the night.

AMA Supercross Series - Daytona, FL

3/09/2010

The AMA Supercross series visited Daytona Motor Speedway and massive crowd last Saturday for round three of East coast Lites championship. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing /Yamaha’s fielding of two riders, #341 Nico Izzi, and the rider from Ecuador #577 Martin Davalos.  Like every year, conditions at this race are extremely challenging and everything needs to lineup just right for a great finish. Preliminary action got underway in good fashion as Izzi stood high up in the charts at 3rd and Davalos clocked the 6th fastest Timed-qualifying lap.

Slated into Heat #1; Davalos reeled off a fair start only to get taken down in the first lap. Once back going again, Davalos was far from qualifying unfortunately.  So in the dreaded LCQ, Davalos played it cool and took 1st, securing himself into the Main Event.  When the Main Event took to the track, Davalos and his #577 bike were in the mix sitting in 9th. Finding his grove, Davalos quickly made his way through a few battles, and on lap three he had reached 8th. Once there, Davalos had a bobble on lap five which took him back to 11th. From there, Martin put together consistent laps and got back into being in race mode, which carried him to the finish of 10th.

Next in line would be Izzi, starting Heat #2 in the thick of the field, the Georgia native showed good speed and raced on to a transfer position of 5th.  With a subpar start to the Main Event, 13th, Izzi jumped to 8th on lap five.  However, while on the move he fell victim to a few mistakes and would end up being shuffled back to 11th on the eleventh lap. Shaken a little, Izzi pushed on to close out the remaining laps strong. Certainly feeling some effects of the bobbles he had, the last lap saw Izzi relinquish another few positions when he hit the ground momentarily, once back up Izzi went on placing him in 13th, where he’d finish out at.

AMA Supercross Series - Atlanta, GA

2/27/2010

The AMA Supercross Series packed 71,000 Georgia fans into Atlanta’s Georgia Dome for one of the season’s finest races. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha showed up eagerly awaiting to unleash their two East coast contingents at their home state race. The day started out fairly well for Nico Izzi #341 who went and set the 5th fastest Timed-qualifying lap. Uncharacteristically, Martin Davalos #577 let some on track antics from another rider get the best of him and was forced to spend this night of racing on the sidelines.

Slated into Heat #2, Izzi salvaged a mediocre start but showed all he had to offer by putting down a super aggressive ride up to 6th.

The Lites East Main Event shot out of the gate, with the FMF backed Izzi sitting 7th, and with the poise of good things to come. On lap three, Izzi had settled into the pace and began picking up some time which left him racing for a top five position. It was clear he was not done by any means, but on the following lap Izzi lost his wheels and suffered a minor crash. Now relegated back to the 14th spot, Izzi worked hard to salvage what he could. Just passed the halfway mark, Nico had reeled in and taken over the 13th place spot. With the closing five laps ahead, the Georgia native kept digging deep and made his way into 12th. From there, Izzi would go on to finish out in 12th, the frustration could be felt by Izzi and he was truly angry.

AMA Supercross Series - Indianapolis, IN

2/20/2010

The AMA Supercross Series went off with a bang to a fan base exceeding 60,000 inside a newly designed stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana this past Saturday night. Both classes had their exciting moments on the track, with the series making its eastward swing. DNA Shred Stix/ Star Racing/Yamaha came in and showcased their two East coast contingents for the first time this season, #341 Nico Izzi and #577 Martin Davalos. The day started out fairly well for the teammates as Izzi clocked in at 6th and the determined Davalos set the 9th fastest Timed - Qualifying lap.

The gate dropped in Heat race #1, seeing Izzi jump out of the gate well and hold the early lead. The intensity of the battling was at a high, and unfortunately Izzi clipped a tough block which caused him to crash. After getting remounted toward the rear of the field, Izzi made a valiant attempt to qualify but 12th was all he could muster. Qualifying hopes had been dashed, sending Izzi to the LCQ. Slated into Heat race #2, Davalos rocketed out to the early lead and tried to settle in. Racing a little tight, Davalos fell back to 4th. With only a few laps until the finish, the FMF backed rider found a pace that eventually would bring him closer to the leaders. This allowed Martin to dart forward maintaining 4th, and more importantly avoid the LCQ. The LCQ got underway with Izzi safely up front, where he cautiously rode on to a 2nd place finish which gave him a spot in the twenty man field.

For the main event, both Yamaha pilots got decent starts, especially Izzi after having to start from the far outside of the gate in hopes of avoiding any misfortunes. Smart moves in the first few turns though allowed both Davalos 8th, and Izzi 9th to be in contention.  Racing jittery, the teammates rode wheel to wheel but had troubles making any gains. Through the entire race, both Nico and Martin rode a consistent pace, hovering within 8th to 9th. When the fifteen laps were up, Izzi secured 8th making well on a tough night and his teammate Davalos took a frustrating 9th for his tally.

AMA Supercross Series - Anaheim 3, CA

2/132010

The AMA Supercross Series visited Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Ca on a very bright and sunny day for the third and last time this season.  In front of 34,227 fans DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Broc Tickle #20 and Max Anstie #48 came in optimistic, upbeat, all the while knowing they had good chances of stepping on to the podium.  Preliminary action got underway in good fashion as Tickle stood high up in the charts at 2nd and the rookie Anstie clocked the 7th fastest Timed-qualifying lap.

The gate dropped for the first Heat race, seeing Tickle mired deep in the field. However, the combination of avoiding any carnage and making some quick moves allowed the FMF backed rider to ease just inside the top ten. For the next five laps, Broc laid down some of the fastest times and climbed to 3rd by the races conclusion. Up next in Heat race two, Anstie got out front with the two title contenders with one lap down. For the next two laps Anstie showed why his future will be bright, as he rode the wheels of Weimer and Canard. With the three of them breaking away, Max was content at this point to watch and learn from these top riders. Unfortunately, while skimming up a fast stair case jump, Anstie’s front wheel just missed clipping the top, which is very important. Now sent into an endo, Anstie cased the next single with his front wheel, leaving him to be pile drived into the ground in a horrific fashion. After being transported to the hospital, amazingly nothing serious was suffered and it has been determined that Max has a fractured hip and the prognosis is good.

Taking top honors and once again riding exceptionally well on the night was Broc Tickle.  Moving to the Main Event, Tickle rocketed out to the front and held pace with the leaders. Running in 4th for the first three laps, Broc made sure he was in contention. Lap four Tickle was showing nothing short of a podium was acceptable, and with a little luck he was able to move into 2nd all at once. Now looking ahead, Tickle would continue to hang tough throughout the majority of the race and attempt to pick his way closer to the leader. Never willing to settle, Tickle never backed it down to try capture a win, but he would have to wait for another night and take a career best 2nd place.

AMA Supercross Series - San Diego, CA

2/62010

San Diego, CA - Over the weekend, AMA Supercross visited Qualcomm stadium in San Diego, California for yet another exciting west coast round. Broc Tickle #20 and Max Anstie #48 of DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha showed up knowing this was going to be one of their last shots at some quick success. With the normal day program abbreviated due to the harsh weather, timed qualifying surely showed the team was in contention for strong performances by both riders.

Heat #1 had the Star Racing duo of Tickle and Anstie lined up on the gate, it was Anstie grabbing the holeshot who has honed his starting skills as of late. Tickle rounded the first turn in the rear of the field after getting out off the gate in a subpar fashion. On lap one with a small bobble entering a rhythm section, Anstie dropped into 3rd, while Tickle dodged a ton of wrecks and picked his way through the pack. Upfront Anstie rode tentatively with the compromised track conditions, but finished 3rd. Thankfully Tickle at the end of six laps, successfully stayed out of trouble and finished up in 5th.

When the Lites Main Event took to the track, it was Anstie again getting the best of starts sitting in 4th, while Tickle circulated outside the top fifteen. Up front, Anstie found the pace he needed to maintain, and started jumping a section of jumps before any other Lites competitors. (Note: Only a handful of riders actually ended up matching him) and made a pass into 3rd, which put his Yamaha in a sweet spot with the leaders just in range and with very little pressure from behind. Finding his race rhythm was Tickle who had risen up to the 10th position on lap three, and was moving up the field solidly. Still though, the most impressive riding that could be seen was by Max, lap after lap he consistently ran quick times showing that this was no fluke by any means. Lap six went into the books, and Anstie was putting the pressure on to take over 2nd. Then he pulled the trigger, and executed a block pass moving himself up to a solid 2nd. From there the hard charging 16 year old laid it all on the line as he went after the race leader Jake Weimer.  With about three laps left in the race, Anstie had closed onto the rear wheel of Weimer and was set to race head to head. The two riders at this point where dealing with lapped traffic, unfortunately Anstie was held up to say the least. With the finish ahead, Anstie shrugged off his misfortunes and still believed he could take the win. Digging deep and trying hard Anstie raced the last lap hard still having hopes of winning. However Anstie with only two turn’s to go, had some troubles and crashed momentarily. Quickly remounting, Anstie would go on to finish a career best 4th on the night. Tickle pulled through on this occasion in good fashion, and came away with a 5th.

In the end Max was disappointed, however realized he now holds the speed to capture a more exclusive spot in the finishing order come this weekend’s race in Anaheim, CA.

Broc Tickle On the Box in SF!
AMA Supercross Series - San Francisco, CA

1/30/2010

AMA Supercross rolled up the coast of California during the week to a rain free San Francisco and did battle before 41,872 fans at the AT&T Park. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha featuring #20 Broc Tickle and #48 Max Anstie we're both feeling fresh, and in Timed Qualifying it showed when Tickle went out and nailed down the  3rd fastest time, and following closely behind was Anstie netting 9th.

Heat #2 had both Yamaha pilots lined up on the gate, Anstie managed to get a great start seeing him hold down 2nd position coming around the awkward first turn. Sitting upfront for Anstie was short lasted, as he got bumped off the track and was forced rejoin the race in the last position. Tickle got pinched off coming into turn one, setting the scene for both teammates to race their way through the field. Knowing the pressure was on to qualify directly into the main event, Anstie and Tickle battled hard, and avoided making mistakes. In doing so, they were able to bounce back to a respectable 6th and 7th place finish.

The Main Event headed out for a grueling fifteen laps, and Tickle successfully got the start he needed to contend for the podium. Unfortunately Anstie once again was punted off the track in turn one, but the determined sixteen year old was far from throwing in the towel as he held down 14th.  Upfront and locking down 3rd place, Tickle kept putting in consistent laps and virtually was untouchable, while Anstie made his way to 10th on lap eight.  But this night would be highlighted by Tickle, who solidified his potential by racing a clean 15 laps right in tow with the leaders, allowing him to obtain his second career podium.  Anstie would go on to fight his way further through the pack, and at the checkers he would take home 8th for the night.

“It was a strong night for the entire Star team, and its sponsors who we can’t thank enough. It was awesome to have Broc do well, knowing all the hard work he has put in, and we look to continue with this success at the next few rounds in San Diego and Anaheim before transitioning to the east coast where the team is hopeful of strong performances there to” commented team owner Bobby Regan after the race.

AMA Supercross Series - Anaheim II, CA

1/23/2010

Round three of the 2010 AMA Supercross series made its way back to California by once again visiting Angel Stadium.  After multiple torrential rain storms throughout the week leading up to the race, Saturday’s weather turned out to be perfect and any possible forecasts of rain ended up to be untrue as it held off luckily. To the surprise of everyone, track conditions were uncompromised to say to say the least and the action turned out to be thrilling. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s west coast squad comprised of #20, Broc Tickle and newcomer to professional Supercross #48, Max Anstie took to the track in timed qualifying confidently, setting the 5th and 9th fastest times.

Heat #2 had both Tickle and Anstie lined up, getting out of the gate in good fashion would be Tickle who held down 2nd.  Anstie was closed out coming into the first turn, and in the early laps he made some smart moves to insure the netting of a transfer position. The consistent, but still aggressive riding of Tickle saw him take his Yamaha to a solid 2nd place finish, and only a second off of the championship leader at the end of six laps.  Anstie kept his cool and pushed the limits against the veterans as he worked his way up through the field. Holding down the 5th spot with a couple of laps left, the young Englishmen was still hard at work. In doing so, the rookie took a hold of 4th before the qualifier closed out and secured himself in the main event.

Main Event time was exciting right away; Tickle put together a good start and was in the mix of the top five. Unfortunately, early on the first lap he lost some traction and hit the ground. He was able to remount, however it was in a distant 20th. Starting around fifteenth, Anstie’s first laps were spent making moves, and inside of three laps he held down the 9th spot. At halfway both teammates were moving forward, Anstie found his way to 7th, setting some of his best lap times and continued with a calculated performance. Tickle was putting on a great comeback by this point, sitting 11th he could see that a top ten was feasible. On lap thirteen, Max had reeled in and passed for 6th, and also was looking at an outside shot of obtaining 5th. But a lapper caused one slight bobble when he mistimed a rhythm section, taking some wind out of Max’s sails. Slipping back into 7th, Anstie regained his form and went on to finish just outside the top five in only his third Supercross race. Tickle would continue to soldier on right until the checkers, and mustered up a finish of 10th.

AMA Supercross Series - Phoenix, AZ

1/16/2010

The AMA Supercross Series moved the slightest bit out of California over the weekend racing in front of 39K+ fans at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha talents #20 Broc Tickle and #48 Max Anstie adapted to the technical track quickly setting qualifying times that slated them respectively into the night portion of racing.

Up first in qualifying Heat 1 was Tickle, who jumped out front with an awesome start in 2nd. Leading the way, in the second turn Tickle lost his wheels and hit the ground. Tickle was able to remount, and quickly began carving his way up through the field. Track conditions were tough to say the least, and once again the Yamaha pilot suffered yet another fall. Now with only a few laps left, Broc continued to dig deep in order to qualify, but he faced an insurmountable gap which meant he would have to try his luck in the LCQ. When Heat 2 took to the track, Anstie had put himself in with the top contenders seeing him hold down 4th. Unfortunately, at the tail end of lap one the third place rider went down in the sand section and collected Anstie in the process. Now sitting nearly last, Max put his skills to use, forging all the way up to 8th by races end and happily avoided the LCQ.

The always dramatic LCQ took to the track, and drama it was. The very likeable Tickle, once again rocketed out front right from the beginning. Riding a very clean and smart race when it truly counted, Tickle rode on to the win

The gate dropped for the 15 lap main event and at the end of lap one, Tickle brilliantly put himself in good position after a very bad gate pick, 10th. For the next two laps he would remain exactly the same, only to see a rise of one position. Anstie in the opening laps was suffering from some rookie blues; in 16th position and trying too hard he was having his troubles with the slick surface. The next eleven laps, Tickle rode strong and steady as he always does which brought the DNA Shred Stix backed rider up into 7th. In the closing few rotations of race Tickle managed to put his hard training ethics to use, allowing him to jump up two more spots, finishing 5th. Meanwhile Anstie uncharacteristically just never came to grips with the track and gutted out a finish of 15th.

This Wednesday, be sure to catch our team riders signing autographs for more Supercross fans at Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino CA from 6-8pm.

Anaheim Stadium, Anaheim, CA

1/09/2010

Anaheim, CA - The 2010 AMA Supercross season kicked off with 43,841 amped up fans under absolutely epic weather at Anaheim stadium in Southern California this past weekend. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha's west coast squad comprised of #20 Broc Tickle and a newcomer to professional Supercross #48 Max Anstie took to the track in timed qualifying in great form. Turning the most heads early on was Anstie who went out and set the 2nd fastest lap time. Following in contention was Tickle who secured the 6th fastest time on the clock.

Moving into the night show, both riders were slated into the first heat race. Once the gate dropped and all the riders rounded the first turn, it was Tickle taking the holeshot followed by Anstie in 2nd. In the next turn Anstie was block passed, which dropped him into the 4th position momentarily. In the six lap race, Tickle rode strong and smart, diligently holding down the lead the entire way. Meanwhile, Anstie at the age of sixteen started to make an upward assault; setting quick times allowed him to net 2nd and make his first ever main event in the same amount of tries.

The main event got under way, and after poor starts by both teammates, when the first lap was in the books Tickle held down 13th, and Anstie sat 16th. From there both DNA Shred Stix backed riders put their heads down, making runs to climb the results tally. Three laps into the fifteen total lap race, Tickle solidly sat in the top ten in 9th, and Anstie had clawed his way to 12th. With the race closing in on the halfway mark, very clearly Broc had made gains and was pressuring for the 6th position, all the while Max worked in grand fashion by moving into the 10th spot. As the race came to a finish, Tickle picked up one more placing, putting his Yamaha in 6th. Anstie had since made up a huge gap, and went on to finish 9th in his first ever Supercross. Undeniably showing true promise, both riders are set to tackle the race in Phoenix, AZ this coming Saturday.

Star Racing/NCY/Yamaha would like to thank our great sponsors for having us fully prepared.
